Neyythoni
For those pilgrims who do not wish to p take back the ghee they bring inside thecoconut, there is a container called neyythoni (ghee canoe) into which they can pour out the ghee. It .is situated near the Sreekovil. No receipt is required for depositing the ghee in f the neyythoni.Coconut Aazhi (HOMAKUNDOM)
The 'coconut in which the ghee was brought for abhishekam, is thrown into the aazhi (bonfire) situated a little away from the 18 holy steps on the south-east side. Since 1akhs of devotees arrive here during the season. The aazhi will be burning continuously. The fire and the smoke arising from it purifies the atmosphere, destroying disease causing germs, besides being a burnt offering to LordAyyappa.VELANPATTU
There are a group of singers belonging to the' velan' caste, who sing for the removal of evil influence exerted by enemies who confront the-pilgrim. Their song is accompanied by a percussion instrument called 'para'. They sit on the ground below the 18 steps and near the Maalikappuram shrine. By giving a dakshina,pilgrims can get their service.Vedi Vazhipaadu
This is an important vazhipaadu at Sabarimala and also at various other stations on the routes to Sabarimala. This gained popularity from ancient days probably as a good means to drive away wild animals. Using gun powder packed tightly inside a special device made of steel a loud bang (sound of explosion) is created by detonating the explosive. This device is called 'Kathina' and the sound explosion is called vedi. Pilgrims have any number of explosions and a charge fixed for it. It is done by contractors.Sarpparadhana (Snake worship)
There is a platform between the two ponds on the left side of the path from the steps on the northern side to the Malikappuram. Here the pratishta is that of Sarpam. (Naga Thara) Pilgrims shower turmeric powder here and burn karpooram (camphor) to gain sarpapreethiPulluvanpattu or Sarpam pattu
There are singers in front of the sarpathara for singing the sarpampaattu or pulluvan paattu. They will sing their songs for any pilgrim mentioning the name and birth - star of that particular person, in exchange for a dakshina.Vazhipadu Rates
